A 15-year-old hiker who disappeared Sunday afternoon flew into the arms of his father after being lost for 19 hours.
The teen, 15-year-old Robby Kershaw, was last seen on the Pacific Crest Trail at about 2:30 p.m. He had been on a day hike with his father when he ran ahead and became lost.
White Pass Spokesperson Kathleen Goyette said Robby was not prepared for an overnight hike, but luckily temperatures overnight were mild.
Hundreds of volunteers joined in a search that started at 6 a.m. Monday. Robby was found about 9:30 a.m. He arrived to cheers from the searchers and hugs from his father, Robert Kershaw.
"Obviously, when you don't know if you're ever going to find your son again, obviously it's a little bit emotional," said Robert Kershaw.
Choppers with infrared worked the skies overnight and into Monday searching for the boy, as did dozens of volunteers.
When Robby was found, he was a little dirty, but OK, and miles from where he had last been seen.
Robby had a cellphone with him, but his battery died Sunday afternoon.
