SEATTLE — A 15-year-old boy was shot on Seattle’s Aurora Avenue overnight, according to the Seattle Fire Department.
Police and medics first responded to the corner of Aurora Avenue and North 105th Street at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
Seattle Fire reports that the teen was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) confirmed the shooting later that same morning.
According to SPD, arriving officers found Seattle Fire Department medics treating the 15-year-old boy, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was stabilized and taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition, SPD reports.
Witness on scene originally reported to police that the victim was standing on the sidewalk when a dark colored sedan approached. A passenger in the vehicle fired multiple shots, striking the victim. The vehicle then allegedly left the scene in an unknown direction before officers arrived.
Sometime later, at a disturbance at another location, it was reported that this shooting possibly occurred inside a vehicle. Police were told that the passenger in the back seat was messing with a handgun and accidentally shot the driver. Shortly after, the shooter got out of the car and ran off. The victim drove a few more blocks, where SFD was on an unrelated call, to seek treatment. Several other passengers also got out of the car and ran off. Police believe this version of events appears to be “more consistent with information received from Real Time Crime Center.”
Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.
