MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD) announced that a teen was arrested for allegedly threatening a school shooting.
On the morning of Oct. 16, MVPD’s School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Mount Baker Middle School was notified by school staff of a social media post indicating a possible threat of a school shooting, according to MVPD.
Staff and the SRO quickly began an investigation.
As a result, a 14-year-old boy was arrested. The teen was a student at the middle school.
MVPD said at this point, it’s believed he acted alone.
“We are grateful to the individuals who reported this information promptly and for our ongoing partnership with the Mount Vernon School District. This cooperation was instrumental in ensuring the safety of students and staff throughout this incident,” MVPD wrote on Facebook.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the 24-hour dispatch line at (360) 428-3211 or, during business hours, contact the Mount Vernon Police Department at (360) 336-6271.
This threat comes on the heels of a deadly mass shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, that left three young students and a teacher dead.
A 16-year-old suspect was shot by a bystander.
