MONROE, Wash. — One person has died after a tree fell onto their vehicle in Monroe on Wednesday night.
The crash was reported by Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue around 8:30 p.m. on Florence Acres Road, off Old Owen Road.
The tree fell onto the vehicle, trapping the person inside, firefighters said.
The person trapped was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It’s hard,” said Kia Eden, who lives near the crash. “It’s a hard thing.”
Neighbors said the tragic incident should serve as a reminder not to take to the roads during severe weather.
“Any one of these trees could fall,” Eden said. “You have to stay off the road. They call them widowmakers for a reason.”
Rescue crews say only one person was in the crushed car.
