Lizard pulled from fire that gutted Northgate home

SEATTLE — Firefighters pulled a pet lizard out of a fire that gutted a house in Seattle's Northgate neighborhood.

One of the residents told KIRO 7 his girlfriend woke him up just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when the fire started.

All four people and a puppy living inside were able to get out safely, but an African Spiny-Tailed Lizard, named Princess Diana, was left behind.

Firefighters found her in the basement.

“I’ve never seen a pet lizard come out of a building before. [It was] very smoky. Veryhot. And it was just hiding right under the stairs,” said Seattle Fire Department Deputy Chief Bryan Hastings.

Fire investigators determined the house fire was an accidental fire caused by combustibles left too close to heating equipment.
