QUINCY, Washington — A live bomb, apparently an old military device, was found inside a bin of potatoes at a Quincy processing plant early Wednesday morning, the Wentachee World reported.
A worker at ConAgra Foods found the bomb at about 4:30 a.m.
“It did carry a charge, so someone could have been injured if it had gone off,” Quincy Police Sgt. Paul Snyder said.
From the World:
Snyder said the device was a marker bomb, used by the military to mark the location where larger bombs would be dropped. The device was less than a foot long. He said several old military explosives have been found in eastern Washington, which was a training grounds for the military years ago.
Bomb squad officials from the Richland Police Department retrieved the bomb and blew it up nearby.
