Grease fire erupts in Haggen Foods deli

AUBURN, Wash. — An Auburn Haggen Foods’ store is back open after after a large plume of smoke was pouring off the roof.

The fire, reported at 5:52 p.m. Thursday night, occurred in the Oriental Express Deli. The store sustained significant smoke and water damage.

According to Valley Fire, the smoke was caused by a grease fire that overwhelmed the hood and duct system, extending into the duct work  and pushing smoke through the roof vent.

The building was completely evacuated. No one was injured.

The building's sprinkler system was activated. Firefighters approached the fire from inside the building and from the roof. A damage estimate is not yet available. The Oriental Express Deli is closed until further notice.
