SEATAC, Wash. — A day ahead of Thanksgiving, some SeaTac families are dealing with burned homes after an apartment fire.
QUICK FACTS:
- 11 people displaced
- Red Cross called into help
- Four units destroyed
- Fire cause unknown
Eleven people were displaced after four units were destroyed at the Legacy Place Apartments.
Kent firefighters, who handle services for SeaTac, were called to a two-alarm fire at the apartment complex about 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The building is at 20800 South 31st Lane.
First and second floor units appear to be damaged by the fire.
Neighbors called 911 and rushed to make sure other residents got out by pounding on doors and windows. Everyone escaped safely.
The timing of the fire on Thanksgiving Eve was tough for the fire victims. Neighbors like Christine Debiaso vowed to help.
"Heartbroken, I've already asked what they're doing for Thanksgiving. They're more than welcome to come here. It's sad," said Debiaso.
Fire investigators searched the first floor unit and determined the fire was accidental, there was a failure in the electrical wiring to an appliance in the bedroom. KIRO-7 asked what kind of appliance and was told investigators could not tell, there were several possibilties.
The Red Cross was called to help families.
Two cats are missing from the upstairs unit.
