PUYALLUP, Wash. — Investigators say man in hash oil explosion worked for legal pot-product company
A Puyallup man accused of illegally making hash oil told investigators he was employed by a company that makes legal marijuana products sold to medical pot dispensaries.
Seth Cleek, 20, was arrested after a series of explosions at his home late Tuesday night. Puyallup police said Cleek was using volatile butane to extract oil from marijuana supplied to him by a company called Cap'n Cosmics, a maker and distributor of edible marijuana products.
Cleek was charged Thursday with unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, reckless burning and reckless endangerment. He pleaded not guilty. Police said there were 10 people at the home at the time of the explosions including a 14-month-old child. No one was injured.
According to a probable cause affidavit Cleek told investigators a man named Kevin Weeks from Cap'n Cosmics would bring him large trash bags full of marijuana along with cases of butane. Cleek said he made around $20 an hour making the oil.
Cap'n Cosmics Facebook page shows a variety of products such as pastries, candy and other items infused with the oil. The Facebook page describes its products as "a line of EXTREMELY potent medibles for MMJ patients."
KIRO 7 tried to contact owners of Cap'n Cosmics through Facebook, email and by telephone. The attempts went unanswered.
