Federal grand jury investigating Wash. state auditor

WASHINGTON — A federal grand jury is investigating Democratic State Auditor Troy Kelley.

In response to a public disclosure request from KIRO-7 and other news outlets, the auditor's office has just released a copy of the grand jury subpoena that it responded to yesterday.

The federal probe came to light when agents searched Kelley's home on Monday.

The subpoena asks for emails and computer files about an employee of the auditor's office who apparently worked at Kelley's private escrow services company.

Kelley's company was the target of a lawsuit before he was elected in 2012.

During that campaign, Kelley admitted that he had not at the time paid taxes on $3.8 million he had moved between various bank accounts.

KIRO-7 has requested the information the auditor’s office gave to federal investigators. So far, that information has not been released.
