MARYSVILLE, Wash. — A man was killed in a crash in Marysville that police say may have been the result of racing.
The one-car crash occurred 12:20 a.m. Tuesday in the 14100 block of Smokey Point Boulevard in north Marysville.
Police arrived to find an early '90s blue Honda Civic that had crashed into a utility pole. Police said the wreckage was so bad that first responders had to cut the victim out of his car.
The male driver, who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The victim was in his late teens or early 20s.
Marysville police said reports started coming in about midnight that two vehicles may have been racing near Old Highway 99 and 136th Street prior to the crash. If there was a second driver, they left the scene.
"I know that young people think that they're invincible, but the reality is that speed does kill. In this case, this is a classic example. Someone lost control, hit a utility pole and ended their life, and that's a sad thing," said Marysville police Commander Robb Lamoureux.
Police said they're on the lookout for a dark-colored sedan that may have been the second car involved in the incident.
“We are looking to talk with anyone who may have observed any racing or who has any other information to share that will assist us in determining the cause of this collision,” said Lamoureux.
Investigators are asking for anyone with information to contact Detective Bartl at 360-363-8350.
