SEATTLE — The Fremont troll took up residence under the north end of the Aurora Bridge on Halloween 1990.
He was sculpted by four Seattle area artist: Steven Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter and Ross Whitehead, who constructed the troll for the Fremont Arts Council.
The 18-foot sculpture has a number of notable features – among them, a shiny metal eye and a crushed old-style Volkswagen Beetle.
The car is clasped beneath his left hand and originally contained a time capsule of Elvis memorabilia, which was removed after the car was vandalized.
The troll has knack for attracting weird occurrences.
In 1998, a man shot a bus driver and ran the bus off the Aurora Bridge, crashing the bus on top of an apartment building next to the troll.
The troll is located on N. 36th Street.
