Earthquake hits Alaska, triggers tsunami warning

CRAIG, Alaska — A 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Alaska early Saturday morning.

The earthquake struck the area around 1 a.m.

The epicenter was about 60 miles off the coast near Craig, Alaska, which is a couple hundred miles south of Juneau.

A tsunami warning was issued for areas along the coasts of Alaska and Canada, but was canceled shortly after.

Officials with the Alaska Earthquake Information Center said it was the most intense earthquake they had felt in a decade.

There were no reports of damages or serious injuries.
