The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Police said a dark green or black Acura pulled up to the 19-year-old, his brother and their 40-year-old father as they were sitting in an old bus shelter.

Police said Mireles approached the vehicle, words were exchanged and gunmen in the car opened fire before speeding away. Mireles' brother was not hurt.

The men had just left Kari Frazier's home nearby. They stopped at the bus shelter to wait for Rivera's wife, who was still inside visiting.

"We were inside, heard the gunshots and ran over to see what the commotion was. (We) didn't realize it was even them," said Kari Frazier.

She is worried about her friend, who lost her husband and son.

"All I can say is I love her very much. I can't imagine her having to go through this pain. I'm here for her," added Frazier.

Neighbor Tom Mitchell who lives a block from the shooting near the intersection of B Street SE and 17th Street SE said he heard about six gunshots.

"I have my daughter, and she's 16, and she walks to the store a lot and has friends around here, but I'm not going to allow that no more," Mitchell said.

KIRO 7 asked police if the shooting was part of the ongoing gang violence in King and Pierce counties.

"The subjects that were shot tonight, the info that I have, is we do not recognize their names as gang members," said a police spokesman.

But residents said they would not be surprised if gang violence was to blame.

Police investigated until early Wednesday morning, sealing off local streets.

The suspect was arrested in Auburn. A woman who police believe was in the car during the shooting is also being questioned.
