SPANAWAY, Wash. — A 12-year-old girl is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center after her father was killed in a hit and run accident Saturday night.

Todd Morose was driving with his wife and two daughters when a truck slammed into their truck head-on, according to authorities.

Todd died on the scene, and on Monday KIRO 7 learned that his wife LeeAnna lost an eye in the accident.

The driver suspected of hitting them and running from the scene, Matthew Haygood, appeared before a judge Monday afternoon.

Court documents say that on Saturday night, just 10 minutes before the fatal crash, Haygood had been driving drunk and had rear-ended another vehicle – then sped away.

"He just kept mowing up the hill hitting cars as he was going," said a caller to 911 dispatch.

Though call after call came into 911 reporting the first hit and run, prosecutors say Haygood continued driving.

Ten minutes later, he crossed a median in Spanaway and slammed into the truck Todd Morose was driving.

"If Mr. Haygood would have stopped there, rather than fleeing that first initial accident, Mr. Morose would have been alive, LeeAnne Morose would have her eye, which she lost during the course of the accident, and her daughters would not have been injured," said Pierce County deputy prosecutor John Macejunas in court Monday.

Meantime, friends of the Morose family are praying for the 12-year-old daughter with two broken legs who is in critical condition.

They also pray for the entire family.

"That's not fair, it's not fair to someone so loving and giving," said Tracy Forges, a friend.

"And you don't find people like that with children every day, it's just--I know God has a reason. I just don't know what it is right now," she added.
