SEATTLE — A fire at the Westin hotel in downtown Seattle closed several lanes of Fifth Avenue and forced some guests to evacuate.
The fire in the hotel at 1900 Fifth Avenue was reported about 2:50 p.m.
The fire started on the fourth floor when workers in a bathroom ignited insulation, Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore said. It traveled up the duct work so the 10th, 11th, and 12th floors had to be evacuated. People noticed smoke but not flames. Other guests were told to shelter in place.
Southbound Fifth Avenue was completely closed at Olive Way, and Virgina Street is also closed at Fifth.
