Starbucks debuting new air-whipped drink: the Aerocano

Tuesday is National Coffee Day and to celebrate, Starbucks is releasing a new drink.

It’s called the Aerocano. The drink will be available in regular and caramel.

It is crafted with Starbucks Blonde Espresso and ice. According to the company, the Aerocano is air-whipped to create a light, velvety texture and a signature cascading effect.

It was inspired by the Americano – shots of espresso and water.

The Aerocano originally debuted earlier this year in South Korea, where iced Americanos are a daily staple.

Chanda Beppu, senior vice president of Starbucks Asia Pacific, first saw the potential of the Aerocano while exploring coffee trends.

“It is creamy with a slightly sweet [flavor],” Beppu said. “I’m an Americano drinker myself, and it’s fun to take that familiar experience and add a visual and textural element to it.”

Senior staff at Starbucks describe the drink as creamy with a slightly sweet flavor.

Developing the recipe required adjusting steam times and pouring methods to maintain the espresso’s flavor while achieving a foam layer and cascading visual effect.

The visual presentation is intended to highlight barista craft as the aerated espresso settles in the cup.

The drink will be available at Starbucks coffeehouses across North America starting Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Also arriving Tuesday are three new mini pies. The lineup includes the Apple Crumble Mini Pie, Pecan Mini Pie, and Pumpkin Mini Pie, bringing together flavors like tender apples with buttery streusel, toasted pecans with caramelized sweetness, and creamy pumpkin with warm fall spices.
