Businesses credit Seahawks' success with huge boom in sales

SEATTLE — After Saturday night's huge win over Carolina, the Seahawks are getting ready to do it all again next week.

Two Swannie’s Bar and Grill employees are doing a dirty job Sunday morning, but they are happy to do it because they know cans full of trash mean the restaurant and comedy club next door were full of people Saturday night.

It's been like that every game day since the Seahawks started their winning streak.  Owner Jonathan Fox says “grateful” is a gross understatement.

"It virtually saved our business, because there were a lot of problems here --  increased parking fees, homeless encampment -- things that were undermining our business, so yeah, I intend to leave the Seahawks in my will,” Fox told KIRO 7, laughing.

"It was almost a near riot,” he explained, referring to the crowds that watched the game on big screens in front of the comedy club stage in the basement.

"Went to the pro shop and ate at this wonderful little Italian restaurant on the corner last night and I don't know -- chocolate factory,” said Sandy Gerber, a fan who traveled to Seattle from western Montana for the game. “We spent probably more money than I'm aware of at the moment,” she admitted.

She spent some of that money at the sold-out Pioneer Square Hotel, where management said calls to book for next weekend started pouring in minutes after Saturday night's win.

There's more being made inside the stadium, too.  The Seahawks added a team store and more than 99 percent of season ticket holders renewed for this season after last year's Super Bowl win, even though prices jumped 12 percent.

So taking out the trash at Swannie’s never felt so good.

“It was very lucrative and very satisfying, we needed it,” concludes Fox.

Tickets go on sale to the public for next Sunday's noon game on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m.  About 1,200 will be available.   A lottery for Blue Pride season ticket waitlist members will be held Monday.
