Boy dies after 'excellent' diagnosis at hospital

TACOMA, Washington — A devastated family is looking for answers after their little boy died just hours after an emergency room doctor told them their son was fine.

Bryan Salinas was taken to the emergency room at Tacoma’s Mary Bridge Hospital on June 30 after he fell out of a window at his home and hit his head.

“We went to the hospital because Bryan fell from the window and he was crying so bad, and he was throwing up, and he was so white,” said Fabiola Salinas, the boy’s aunt.

She said the family told the doctor, “We know he’s not OK, he’s crying more often, he’s throwing up.”

The family said a doctor examined Bryan, but did not order a CAT scan of his brain. The doctor’s diagnosis was that there was no evidence of a serious injury. Bryan’s condition at the time he was discharged was listed as “excellent.”

“The doctor said it’s normal that he did that, so they sent us home,” Fabiola said.

But normal didn’t last long. A few hours later, Bryan was terribly sick.

“My little nephew (stopped) breathing, his lips was blue already, his heart was bumping and it stopped,” Fabiola said.

A CAT scan confirmed that Bryan’s brain had filled with blood and that killed him.

“My son (was) part of my heart and now my heart is empty,” said Marcos Salinas, Bryan’s father. “I don’t see my boy anymore, walking, jumping.”
