SEATTLE — The Seattle police arson and bomb unit investigated after a mysterious box mounted on a stand was found in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood.
The box and wooden stand were found in the 800 block of North 34th Street Monday morning next to the Adobe building.
Police said employees of Adobe noticed two people leaving the box, which had blinking lights on it, near the Burke-Gilman Trail shortly before 10 a.m. and then called police.
Officers were in the process of examining the box with a robot when a patrol officer found a young man nearby who claimed to have some knowledge of the box.
Some Adobe employees were evacuated along with neighbors in nearby houseboats, and two bomb robots were brought to the package.
While interviewing the man, police learned that the box was an art installation - a large cardboard box with LED lights inside.
Police opened the box, examined it, and determined that it was harmless.
The man carried the box away and police cleared the scene.
Police will write a report about the incident and the Prosecutor's Office can determine if any there are any charges that are appropriate.
