Bainbridge teacher in student sex scandal appears in court

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — A Bainbridge High School teacher accused of having sex with one of her students pleaded not guilty Monday.

Quick Facts:

  • Jessica Fuchs, 26, accused of having sex with 16-year-old student
  • Prosecutors say she told victim to lie about relationship
  • Sexual messages, video alleged between teacher and student
  • Bail lowered from $100,000  to $25,000

Prosecutors allege she told the teen to, "Lie like you've never lied before."

Jessica Fuchs was shackled as she was escorted into a Kitsap County courtroom.

The 26-year-old is accused of having sex with her 16-year-old student at Bainbridge High and telling him to lie to cover it up.

Court documents say investigators found out about the relationship in February and Fuchs was arrested last Thursday.

Prosecutors say the messages between the two were sexual in nature and detailed sexual activity including a sexually explicit video she made titled, "For my baby."

Police said she had done a search on her laptop for "how to permanently delete cellphone records."

The boy's mother found out about the alleged relationship and reported it to police.

Prosecutors said the victim’s mother wanted Fuchs’ bail to stay at $100,000 because she was concerned about future contact between the defendant and her son, but the judge eventually lowered the bail to $25,000.

Fuchs’ attorney said she had at least 10 family members and supporters in court. They walked right past a KIRO 7 News crew when they were asked to comment.

Fuchs potentially faces up to five years in prison for each of the three counts she is facing. She'll be back in court next month.
