Appeals court finds Amanda Knox guilty of murder

FLORENCE, Italy — An appeals court in Florence has found Seattle woman Amanda Knox, and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, guilty in the 2007 murder of Knox’s roommate, Meredith Kercher.

The trial was the third for the former couple.

Knox, 26, awaited the verdict in Seattle, where she returned after spending four years in jail before she and Sollecito were acquitted in 2011. In an email to the court, Knox wrote that she feared a wrongful conviction.

She told Italian state TV in an interview earlier this month that she would wait for the verdict at her mother's house "with my heart in my throat."

Knox's legal saga began nearly seven years ago when Kercher's body was found in their Perugia apartment.

Knox and Sollecito were found guilty almost two years later.

Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison.  Though both convictions were overturned in 2011, prosecutors appealed that acquittal decision 4 months later.

Italy's top court ordered a new trial last March.

Italian government could seek to extradite her.

The U.S. State Department said it wouldn’t comment about extradition until a ruling has been released.
