KIRKLAND, Wash. — A woman suspected of drunken driving has been arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide after one person was killed and three others were injured in a crash in Kirkland.
Kirkland police officers responded to the 11900 block of Juanita Drive just before 9 p.m.
According to investigators, a minivan traveling southbound crossed the center line and crashed head-on with a car heading northbound occupied by four people.
An 81-year-old woman, identified as Joyce Parsons, died at the scene. Of the three others in the vehicle, two were transported to Harborview with critical injuries and the third person was taken to a local hospital.
Police said the driver of the minivan, 41-year-old Kelly Hudson, caused the crash.
She was also transported to Harborview with minor injuries.
Police said the woman exhibited signs of intoxication and was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide after she was released from the hospital.
Shortly before the crash, Kirkland police dispatch took a call from a witness who was following the woman’s vehicle on Juanita Drive and described her as a possible drunken driver.
The dispatch center was still on the line with the witness when the crash occurred, police said.
Hudson is expected to make a court appearance on Wednesday.
