Alaska Airlines contractor fined for health violations

SEATTLE — The State Department of Labor and Industries has fined an Alaska Airlines contractor more than $12,000 for what it said is serious safety violations.

Bags, Inc., employs wheelchair agents that assist ill, disabled and elderly passengers.

Health officials said Bags, Inc., gave no plan to workers in case they came in contact with body fluids, had no hepatitis B vaccinations available for employees who came in contact with blood and failed to train workers on how to protect themselves from HIV infections.

The company had also not provided information on how and where to dispose of contaminated equipment, officials said.
