SEATTLE — A 21-year-old woman was killed and five other people were injured from a shooting early Sunday morning in a South Seattle home, according to the Seattle Police Department.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Stacy Sakamoto spoke with the family of the victim, Sherry Soth, and they shared a photo of her.
The incident happened during a house party at 8 p.m. in the 9700 block of Lindsey Place South, near the intersection of Renton Avenue South and Lindsey Place South, police said.
According to police, several hundred guests were at the party.
Around 8:45 p.m., South Precinct officers responded to the home for a domestic violence assault and arrested two people in front of the house, police said.
At about 11:30 p.m., police returned to the area for a noise complaint. The people inside the house agreed to keep the noise down and to keep people off of the streets.
Before 2 a.m. Sunday, reports of multiple shots were fired at the residence.
Police said witnesses told officers that there was a rap party in the backyard when someone fired shots into the air. This incident continued into a disturbance with people running and more shots being fired.
Soth, along with five other people, a mix of men and women, were hit by the shots.
Several precinct officers and police from Tukwila and King County rushed to the scene.
The Seattle Fire Department arrived at the scene and took five victims to Harborview Medical Center. The sixth victim was rushed to the hospital by a friend.
According to police, Soth died Sunday afternoon from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
Police said the other victims were a 17-year-old girl, an 18-year-old woman, two 20-year-old men and a 21-year-old man.
While investigating the scene, police recovered 20 to 30 shell casings.
The Seattle Police Department’s homicide and crime scene investigation detectives are currently processing the scene.
At this time, police do not have enough information on the suspect description, and detectives will do a follow-up investigation.
