19-year-old jewelry thief caught after pawn shop heist

SEATTLE — A 19-year-old jewelry thief was caught and arrested on Thursday -- after fleeing on foot from a heist at a Beacon Hill pawn shop.

The same man had been involved Tuesday in an incident at the same pawn shop -- when he tore a necklace from the neck of a customer and ran off with it.

On Thursday, he returned to the pawn shop.

Police say this time -- he smashed open the jewelry cases inside the store, grabbed goods, and ran from the store -- as employees chased after on foot.

A Seattle police officer -- Jacob Nelson -- pursued the man for several blocks, and eventually caught up to and arrested him.

All of the jewelry from Thursday’s heist, as well as the necklace stolen on Tuesday, was recovered.
