Chris Hansen releases preliminary interior designs of Sonics Arena

SEATTLE — Preliminary designs of what the new Sonics Arena may look like inside were unveiled Wednesday evening.

The theme of the new arena is “Back to the Future” and the inside is filled with green and gold.

The interior view is of what Chris Hansen’s team came up with, which includes a shorter upper seating bowl and the top rows are replaced with three stacked balconies in yellow called the Sonics Rings.

“Chris Hansen is the most important guy in Seattle right now, he should run for office,” said fan Stan Johnson.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News spoke with fans who couldn’t hide their enthusiasm.

“When I first moved here, I was kind of bummed there was no basketball, and now that I hear they’re coming back, I’m really excited,” said Rachel Ramon.

The design team also got rid of the orange exterior dome on the exterior of the arena and replaced it with a bladed-blue roof to resemble a superonic turbine engine.

On Thursday, Hansen also released new images on the Sonics Arena website of what the building would look inside for an NHL game.
