THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — An explosive device found near an I-5 overpass in Thurston County was detonated by the Washington State Patrol bomb squad Thursday.
Around 7:30 a.m., a public works employee reported seeing what they believed might be a pipe bomb while driving in the 3900 block of 113th Avenue Southwest, which is north of Littlerock.
The road was closed and a Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives K-9 team responded, along with deputies and the bomb squad.
No residential area was threatened and no one was in danger, according to authorities.
The device was intentionally detonated because of its volatility, according to the sheriff's office.
The road was reopened by 11:30 a.m.
No immediate suspect information was known, but the ATF is investigating.
