BREMERTON, Wash. — A driver has been arrested in the serious injury hit-and-run of a pedestrian in Bremerton earlier this month.
The crash happened on Dec. 5 at the north end of the Warren Avenue Bridge. Witnesses told officers the vehicle had driven off the road and hit a guardrail before hitting the victim, who had been walking on the sidewalk.
The driver then quickly left the scene headed northbound on Wheaton Way.
Using evidence collected at the crime scene, investigators were able to focus their search on a particular make and model, and with the help of a Bremerton PD crime analyst, a suspect vehicle was identified.
Witnesses provided police with a vague description of the vehicle and its driver.
That led police to identify a 27-year-old man as a suspect. After police contacted the man’s relatives, the man called Bremerton PD and requested to speak with officers in person.
The man was arrested at his home, where a damaged vehicle was also found. Police said the damage was consistent with what officers believed happened during the Dec. 5 crash. It was impounded to be processed for evidence.
The suspect was booked into the Kitsap County Jail on charges of vehicular assault and injury hit-and-run. His bail was set at $300,000.
