Windy Wednesday nearer the Cascades

A pretty quiet night is in store, with some fog and frost early once again. The best chances for this will be in the south Sound with some patchy ice possible. Farther north, easterly gap winds will be increasing through the overnight into the morning and those winds will be howling in our foothill communities by daybreak. Some sporadic power outages are possible in gap wind-prone locations like North Bend, Enumclaw, Black Diamond and Gold Bar where wind gusts will top 40mph through Wednesday morning, slowly subsiding Wednesday afternoon.

There will also be a band of strong winds extending across Renton to near Seatac where winds could reach 40mph in gusts as well Wednesday morning.

In locations not susceptible to these foothill winds, there won’t be any wind impact at all.

Thursday, expect more clouds with mainly dry conditions, though there could be a few sprinkles near the coast.

Later in the day, breezes in those windier spots will calm down. Highs will be in the 40s, except warmer – in the low to mid 50s – where those stronger winds create downslope warming.

Friday and Saturday, we’ll have hazy sunshine with some worsening air quality because of burning for heat. By Sunday, this should improve somewhat ahead of our next weather system arriving with some rain late next Monday and into Tuesday.
