Mariners manager Eric Wedge will not return in 2014

SEATTLE — Officials with the Seattle Mariners announced Friday that Eric Wedge has chosen to not return to the club in 2014.

Wedge will manage the team for the final three games of the season and will fulfill the remainder of his contract, which expires Oct. 31.

“I accept Eric’s decision not to return and thank him for his hard work here the past three years. I want to wish him and his family all the best in the future,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager Jack Zduriencik.

The Mariners will play their final three games of the season at Safeco Field against the Oakland Athletics, which begins Friday at 7:10 p.m.

Wedge was named the team’s manager on Oct. 18, 2010. He has also managed the Cleveland Indians for seven seasons, from 2003-2009.
