SEATTLE — A woman got out of her car to help a family inside of a burning home in the Rainier Valley Friday morning.

The fire happened at a two-story house in the 4200 block of South Elmgrove Street.

Patrick Carter was driving along Martin Luther King Jr. Way when she saw smoke. She then went to the burning home and got out of her car to help.

The Seattle Fire Department told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that the family got out safely.

“I went and knocked on the door and said, ‘Hey I think there’s a fire, you have to get out,’” said Carter. “And the mom came to the door just shocked.”

There were no injuries reported

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials said the fire appears to have started in the basement.
