Woman follows Google Maps along closed road, into water

FOREST GROVE, Oregon — A woman in Forest Grove followed the route Google Maps laid out for her -- down a closed road marked with signs -- into water.

The woman’s car became stuck in the water of flooded SW Fernhill Road -- and was pushed by the Tualatin River’s current, according to Forest Grove Fire and Rescue.

Officials said the road had signs clearly stating the road was closed.

The woman made it out safe, without injury. Police took her to a nearby McDonald’s and waited with her there until someone picked her up.

Workers from NW Natural Gas saw her submerged car and called 911, according to fire officials.

‘If you come across a flooded roadway (whether it says it’s closed or not), turn around – don’t drown!’ wrote Forest Grove Fire and Rescue over Facebook.
