SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A former police chief in Florida has been accused of sexually battering a 14-year-old girl.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said that William Pruitt, the former Center Hill police chief, was arrested on Friday, according to WFTV.
SCSO said in a news release that probable cause was found to arrest Pruitt for an alleged sexual battery of a 14-year-old girl while utilizing a deadly weapon.
SCSO deputies were contacted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Monday about a sexual battery that had occurred in Sumter County, according to WFTV.
Pruitt was arrested Friday in Live Oak, Florida, by the U.S. Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force with help from the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies said according to WFTV.
No further information has been released.
