Deputy uses stun gun on own K-9 when it attacks cow

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina deputy had to use a stun gun on his own K-9 Wednesday after it became distracted and started biting a cow.

Deputies responded to a burglary in progress around 4 p.m., the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said. The deputy and K-9 officer arrived first, secured the location and waited for backup before attempting to enter the house.

While they were waiting, a nearby cow distracted the K-9, who then bit the bovine. The deputy tried to protect the cow from further injury and deployed a stun gun on the dog. The dog was then put on a leash and into the patrol vehicle.

Turns out, it was all for naught.

In reaction to the dog, the cow inadvertently hit the deputy and the property owner. They suffered minor injuries.

“The original burglary call proved to be unfounded,” the sheriff’s office said.
