Funeral services are scheduled for Oct. 25 at New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, where Cummings' worshiped for 40 years, The Baltimore Sun reported. A viewing is at 8 a.m. followed by the service at 10 a.m.

Cummings' body will lie in state Thursday at the National Statuary Hall at the U.S. Capitol with a formal ceremony for members of Congress, Cummings family and invited guests, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Friday. A public viewing will be after the memorial service.

"In the House, Elijah was our North Star. He was a leader of towering character and integrity, whose stirring voice and steadfast values pushed the Congress and country to rise always to a higher purpose," Pelosi said in a statement. "His principled leadership as chair of the committee on Oversight and Reform was the perfect testament to his commitment to restoring honesty and honor to government, and leaves a powerful legacy for years to come."

Cummings will lie in repose Wednesday at Morgan State University, the Sun reported. The public viewing is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a tribute service from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the historically black university, The Washington Post reported.

It was at Cummings request to hold a viewing at the school, which gave him an honorary degree in 2006. He also served on the school's board of regents.
