SEATTLE — On Friday, the spokes and ring beams are being installed on the new Ferris wheel on the Seattle waterfront known as the Seattle Great Wheel.

The installation is the next milestone for the erection of the wheel.

Crews will be using large winches to hold and move the heavy steel spokes and ring beams into place.

There are 21 spokes. Each weighs 7,000 pounds.

A spokesman for the project said the installation is the most dangerous part of the erection of the wheel.

As each spoke is installed, the wheel is beginning to take shape.
