Police: Man in Lakewood releases girl after hours long standoff

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Lakewood police responded to a call of domestic violence with a weapon at an apartment complex on the 12800 block of True Lane Southwest at 9:41 a.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived, they found the husband inside the apartment in violation of a protection order that prohibits him from contacting his wife and 8-year-old daughter.

The wife was able to leave the apartment, but the daughter remains inside with the husband.

According to a statement from the Lakewood police, officers heard shots fired from inside the apartment at 9:52 a.m.

Officers have secured the area and evacuated nearby apartments.

After the shots were fired, officers did hear the daughter talking in the background while talking to the husband, and she was spotted by officers through a door at 11:23 a.m.

At approximately 3:35 p.m. the man released the girl with the promise the man would not be arrested “today,” according to police on the scene.

While the man remains in the apartment, police are actively pursuing a warrant.
