SEATTLE — Video taken by a neighbor shows an explosive fire that started in a boat outside a Seattle home Tuesday night and then spread to the house next door.

Everyone was able to get out of both buildings without injury.

Mary Miller said she grabbed her cellphone when she heard explosions at her neighbor’s house at Northeast 137th and 20th Avenue Northeast.

Investigators said it appears the fire started in a boat parked outside one of the homes, but they don't know what sparked the flames.

“I was in the backyard just taking my garbage out, and I heard two loud booms and a crackling noise that just wasn’t normal.  I came out into the front yard and the whole entire house was just engulfed in flames on the right side,” said Miller.

The fire department left an engine at the scene overnight to ensure there were no flare-ups.
