WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has named his nominee for labor secretary Thursday at a midday news conference, one day after fast-food executive Andrew Puzder withdrew his name from consideration. The nominee is Alexander Acosta.
A White House official, who was not identified, told Bloomberg Politics on Wednesday that Trump had several people in mind to fill Puzder's place. Among them are former National Labor Relations Board members Peter Kirsanow and R. Alexander Acosta, Michigan State University assistant professor Joseph Guzman and former head of the South Carolina Labor Department Catherine Templeton.

He was dogged by controversy over his treatment of workers, previous comments about women and his employment of a housekeeper who was not authorized to work in the United States.
Puzder said in a short statement on Twitter that he was "honored to have been considered" for the position.
