Man injured in trooper-involved shooting

CLEARVIEW, Wash. — A man was shot by a Washington State Patrol trooper Sunday morning after a pursuit in Clearview, said the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. in the 16300 block of State Route 9.

The Sheriff's Office said a pickup truck was seen driving recklessly northbound on Interstate 5 when a Washington State Patrol trooper attempted to pull over the driver near the 128th Street exit.

Troopers deployed a spike strip near the 88th Street exit in Marysville, but the driver continued even with one of the vehicle's tires damaged.

The driver continued traveling northbound at speeds of up to 90 mph.

The driver got off I-5 at Smokey Point and turned onto southbound SR 9. The driver then pulled into a parking lot of a gas station.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, when troopers followed the driver into the parking lot, it is believed the driver attempted to assault troopers with his vehicle.

A trooper then shot the driver.

The man exited his vehicle and was taken into custody.

The man was brought to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.
