SEATTLE — As thick haze hangs around the Seattle area, many have questioned health issues for pets associated with these conditions.
Here’s what you need to know about how the smoky skies can impact your pets.

KIRO 7 spoke with Laura Follis, the director of marketing and communications of PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) who answered common questions that pet owners have.

The effects of smoke are similar for humans and animals. High levels of smoke may irritate your animal's eyes and respiratory tract.

How can pet owners reduce animals' exposure to smoke and ash?
Strategies pet owners can take to reduce animals' exposure to smoke are also similar to those for humans; reduce the time spent in smokey areas, provide animals plenty of water, limit activities that will increase breathing, and reduce exposure to dust and/or other air pollutants
