Seattle railroad crossing malfunction causes backups

SEATTLE, Wash. — Malfunctioning technology at a Seattle railroad crossing caused large backups Friday evening.

The error occurred near Safeco Field at South Lander Street -- between 3rd Avenue South and Occidental Avenue South.

The gates were back up and traffic was flowing regularly by 7 p.m.

This is a main route where Metro has been re-routing buses from downtown to the SODO light rail station during the Alaskan Viaduct closure.

A second arm malfunctioned near South Spokane Street.
