Sailors on Everett-based Navy ship test positive for coronavirus

The U.S. Navy said that several sailors aboard the Everett-based USS Kidd tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Associated Press reported that at least 18 members of the crew tested positive, and officials expect the number to grow. The ship has a crew of about 350.

The ship was off the Pacific coast of Central America conducting a U.S. counterdrug mission, according to the AP.

A specialized medical team was deployed to conduct contact tracing and additional testing, according to a statement.

One sailor was flown back to the U.S. for treatment.

The ship will return to port in Everett where a crew will clean and disinfect the ship.
