FIFE, Wash. — A pipe bomb that forced the closure of a road and caused businesses to be evacuated on Sunday afternoon in Fife has been disabled, police said.

Fife police had closed 54th Ave. E. and 20th St. E. after officers found a pipe bomb inside a vehicle.

Investigators said the incident started when two vehicles crashed and one of the vehicles took off.

Businesses were evacuated, including a nearby gas station and the Fife Pool and Community Center.

The driver of the vehicle with the pipe bomb fled on foot.

The bomb disposal unit was called to scene to investigate the situation and disable the device.

The area was reopened and people were allowed back.
