BAINBRIDGE, Wash. — Washington State Ferries unveiled the first 60 Years in Service decoration on board the Tillikum, the state’s oldest active ferry, at a ceremony on Bainbridge Island Wednesday.
MV Tillikum began service between Seattle and Bainbridge Island in 1959. Today, the Tillikum serves primarily as the San Juan interisland vessel.
“Back when a gallon of gas cost 23 cents, and before Alaska became a state, the Tillikum began its public service on the waters of Puget Sound,” Washington State Department of Transportation Ferreis Divsion said in a news release.
