A man was arrested Sunday night after leaving his child inside his car and running away from police.
An officer spotted a speeding car near Rainier Avenue South and South Byron Street at 9 p.m. Sunday night.
The 28-year-old driver pulled into a nearby bank parking lot, got out of the car and ran away. While other officers chased after the man on foot, one officer noticed a young child in the front passenger seat of the car.
The man was taken into custody after he was found hiding behind a dumpster at a gas station. Police found he had two felony warrants and later booked him into jail for reckless endangerment, traffic crimes and the two warrants.
The child said his father had been drinking and pointed to a can of beer on the floor of the car. The child was handed over to a family member.
