SEATTLE, Wash. — Hundreds of cats and dogs landed at Boeing Field in Seattle Saturday with animal advocates hoping they will get a second chance for a new life.
The animals were rescued and transported to the Northwest by a group of volunteer pilots through a program called Wings of Rescue.
The group helps transport pets from overcrowded shelters to other shelters across the nation with a higher demand for animals in need of homes.
Multiple shelters took the animals in, including: Paws Animal Shelter in Lynnwood, Sunny Sky’s Animal Rescue in Puyallup and the Seattle, Kitsap Tacoma and Pierce County Humane Societies.
The program has saved roughly 20,000 shelter pets from being euthanized.
The shelters said they will examine the animals before putting them up for adoption.
The group transported 14 kittens to Arlington, Wash. from Los Angeles County earlier this year.
