SPOKANE, Wash. — The National Weather Service confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in the Spokane area after a storm blew through Friday night.
The first tornado was rated an EF0 and touched down three miles northeast of Airway Heights at about 7:03 p.m., the agency reported. It caused tree and power line damage in the area.
The second tornado, which touched down near Interstate 90 between Freya and the Dishman Hills recreational area at about 7:20 p.m., also was rated an EF0. Winds reached speeds of 65 to 85 miles per hour.
Crews with the Spokane Valley Fire Department and Spokane Fire Department responded to the damage caused by both tornadoes. They also found downed trees on houses and toppled vehicles.
The tornado caused damage at a mobile home park, where trees were uprooted and a couple of trailers were overturned.
Washington typically sees one to two tornadoes a year, according to NWS.
The last tornado to hit the Spokane area was in August 2016 in Airway Heights.
