King County agencies and partner organizations launched a campaign Friday to stop labor and sex trafficking in Puget Sound.
Representatives from King County, the Port of Seattle, the City of Seattle, Sound Transit, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Airlines talked to reporters Friday morning at Sea-Tac International Airport.
They launched a public awareness campaign to stop human trafficking, expanding a 2013 effort that county leaders said dramatically increased the number of trafficking survivors who received the medical care, financial assistance, housing, and other resources.
Washington ranks 12th in the number of calls to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. In 2017, there were 8,524 cases reporting. In the first half of 2018, there were 5,417 cases.
“I was kept locked, fed one plate of food a day and forced to take drugs,” she said.
